“Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” I John 4:15-16 NKJV
The world defines love as ‘an intense feeling of deep affection’. The Bible defines love as God. While feelings are a part of the expression of love, true love loves when feelings aren’t present. This is why love is a someone rather than a something. God is love, and God is faithful, constant, and never changing. A myriad of feelings bring change, but the one who is love is eternally faithful.
1. If God is love, then whatever is contrary to God is contrary to love.
“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.” John 14:23-24 NKJV
2. There is no greater love.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” Romans 5:8-10 NKJV
3. Love never fails.
“Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.” I Corinthians 13:8-10 NKJV
4. Love destroys the lie.
“We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT
We cannot be quiet.
We have to know The Truth in order to destroy the lie. We have to know The Word of God.
5. Love doesn’t give a little. Love lavishes.
“Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.” Deuteronomy 7:9 NLT
“And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows.” 1 Thessalonians 3:12 NLT
Overflow (abound) in the Greek is 'Perisseuoto' which means:
- to exceed a fixed number of measure
- to be left over and above a certain number or measure
- to be over, to remain, to exist or be at hand in abundance
- to be great (abundant)
- a thing which comes in abundance, or overflows unto one
- something falls to the lot of one in large measure
- to redound unto, turn out abundantly for a thing
Peace Fam. May we overflow.
Go Boldly,
